What is this flower?

It’s Nancy “Sorin” Locke’s favorite flower! This is the color-saturated bloom of the “Waratah” shrub (Telopea speciosissima), native to the rocky coastal hillsides of New South Wales, Australia. It comes from an erect shrub, growing 1- 4 meters high, and is a member of the Proteaceae family. The showy, long-lasting blooms make a significant impact in an ikebana design.
